I have a 4 YO DS who has ASD and unilateral hearing loss, they said that his hearing loss is the result of a viral infection which has attacked his inner ear drum and he is at risk of going completely deaf in that ear as it is vulnerable.
They said to call them if I notice any changes, he sees the Audiology department every 6 months for hearing tests, his last one was 4 months ago.
I'm worried because I have noticed some changes and I'm not sure whether to wait 2 months or to phone them and say that he needs his hearing tested now.
The first change that I had noticed is if he stands to his back to me and I call his name he doesn't respond, I was shouting after him to tell him to stop running down a path and he carried on until he turned and looked at me and I could wave him back.
The other change is that he has a music box next to his bed with a projector light to help him calm down at night because of his ASD, he was crying last night and I went up to see him and he asked me to turn the music on when it already was on. I told him this and he cried about it for ages until I could calm him down enough to get him to sleep, I made sure that he was laying on the affected ear but that didn't help either.
Lastly another thing that I have noticed is that he has an innotab which he plays with during the day and I noticed that he was playing it without any sound which was strange because it has instructions that you listen to in order to play the game, I turned the sound up and asked if that was better and he just said yes.
He has a language delay so I can't ask him as he wont understand and he does say yes to most of what I say even if yes doesn't make sense as an answer and I'm not sure whether that's his ASD and his social delay or the fact that he can't hear me properly sometimes.
I'm just looking for some advice about whether I should take him back now or what 2 months until I have another appointment for him, thank you in advance and sorry it is a long post I didn't want to drip feed.
