She was constipated and had a uti, went to the docs on tues and got antibiotics and movicol. Since then she has had movicol twce a day, plus bran falkes, figs, oranage juice, loads to drink. She cant go, she is in a lot of pain and the poo is rught there but she can't pass it. What on earth can I do? I had considered suppositories but since I had one a couple of weeks agao and passed out from the pain I don't think htta is a good idea.

At what point does this actually become a major problem? I am considering waking her up now and taking her to the walk in centre.

Chemist gave us lactulose. Is fab.

Dad was so bad it was giving her a fever but the first relief was within hours.

Dd...no clue about dad

Scootergrrrl · 30/05/2015 08:12

How old is she?

Orange6358 · 30/05/2015 08:13

10 dried apricots daily

TheCowThatLaughs · 30/05/2015 08:16

More movicol? How much is she prescribed per day?

ditavonteesed · 30/05/2015 08:20

she is 9, prescribed 2 sachets a day. Decided we are heading to the walk in centre. Forgot I have also given her senna a couple of times. And tummy massage leg cycling, basically everything i can think of.

Also she needs to drink plenty of water. Movicol works by drawing more water into the bowel to soften the poo, so drinking more should help too, I think.

Poor dd, hope she gets some relief soon

500Decibels · 30/05/2015 08:23

Try pure prune juice. Less than half a glass to start with.

maryelizabeth71 · 30/05/2015 08:23

I'd go to a drop in if she is in pain and it's been that long. Poor girlHmm

reddaisy · 30/05/2015 08:26

Try a suppository, they can be bought over the counter. DD is very prone to constipation by the way and I don't give her bran flakes and weetabix as it makes her worse. She needs soluble fibre (I think that is what it is called). So she only has porridge for breakfast and lots and lots of water, fruit and veg through the day and I limit pasta and bread as that makes things worse here too. Good luck it is horrible for both of you.

A Mumsnetter mentioned a few months ago. It demonstrates how to massage the abdomen to relieve the constipation.

It is interesting. I am not usually constipated but the massage is quite effective nonetheless. Good luck
