Blister above ear in baby - what could this be?

DS (13 mo) has a blister, about 6-7 mm across and filled with fluid, above one ear. It doesn't seem to bother him but does anyone have any idea what it could be? He also has a few small blisters/fluid-filled spots on his face and arm. I wondered Hand Foot and Mouth but they are very sparse - literally only one spot on one arm (and none on hands or feet as far as I can see). In general his skin is pretty good - no allergies/eczema etc.

Doesn't seem like a GP-worthy case yet to me, but wondered if MNers might know what it's likely to be?

I haven't a clue what it may be, but I think if it was one of mine I'd take them to the dr, it may not be bothering him now but may do soon, and if it's something infectious it's best to know now and keep him in and away from other kids.

Fluid-filled makes me think chickenpox but I couldn't be sure without a photo...

Chickenpox? Both of mine started with one large spot - looked like a red sore patch, then blistered. Other smaller spits appeared within a day or two.

I had a thread on here a couple of days ago about my DS who has two blisters on each thumb that are fluid filled. I attached photos and the general consensus was HFM or a type of eczema. Doesn't suck his thumbs. They're not bothering him. But no idea for sure.

Oh, I really hope not chickenpox. It has been going round the nursery but not in the baby room AFAIK... I'd hoped we'd avoid it till he's a bit older.

DH and I have been ill for over 2 weeks with red sore patches on tongue and roof of mouth, so we thought it might be the same thing - we've both had chickenpox though.

Will see how DS is in the morning (he doesn't go to nursery tomorrow anyway) and perhaps take to GP if more spots have appeared.

May be impetigo (very bitter experience!!), I was an idiot and popped it -spread like wildfire mostly on me!

That was how DD's chickenpox started - with this weird, blister thing above her ear.

Wow, didn't know chickenpox presented like this in early stages. Do people usually go to GP to get it confirmed? (this is PFB and I don't know what I'm doing as you can tell!) Never thought I would bother the GP with chickenpox, but on the other hand it seems stupid to keep him off nursery (and miss work myself) when it might be something non-infectious and trivial.

Don't go to GPs if you think it's chicken pox. It's infectious and you don't know who you'll come into contact with - pregnant women, people with weak immune systems etc. In a day or two you'll definitely know.

I've just realised it could be an MMR reaction, DS had this 2 weeks ago. Does the rash look similar to chickenpox?

Ds2 has always had one above his ear, as does niece, and he's now six. Midwife (Jamaican) that delivered him was v excited as apparently common in babies there but had never seen it here, or in a white baby :D sorry, not much help!
