My 5yo ds has been ill over the last 4 days, just generally not feeling well and had a high temperature on and off. He's also been off his food, he's never really a massive eater anyway but he's just not really I terested at all and has had a few bits at each meal. Yesterday he said his eyes hurt and he ended up falling asleep on the sofa late afternoon.

Now onto today, he got up and then said he couldn't walk and started crying when he was walk so sat and refused to walk. So I've been carrying him about so far today.

Was just looking for advice with what to do and to see if anyone else had similar experience with their child.

You need to see the Out of Hours doctor today. This can happen to young children after an infection. I know of two children it has happened to but I don't know the exact diagnosis. both needed some hospital treatment. I don't want to frighten you, but you need to have him checked out. Please call now for an appointment.

Yes, my 2 year old has had this over the winter. She complained of ouchy legs and said she couldn't climb into her car seat, her high chair or up the stairs. I assumed flu.

I would suggest you take him to a&e now. Something similar happened to my son when he was 4 after having had chicken pox a few weeks before, and long story short, he was admitted at great ormond st and was diagnosed with arthritis.

I'm not saying he's got the same thing, but I'd say the not walking, high temp and eyes hurting aren't great signs. Given that it's the long bank holiday weekend it'll be a long time for him to wait if you don't seek medical help now.

Good luck.

Dd had septic arthritis in her hip aged 3 as a post viral complication

Couldn't articulate where the pain was but would scream as soon as she was weight bearing

It's a good reason to go to A&E

Thanks everyone, we ended up seeing an out of hours doctor. The doctor said it was Achilles tendinitis, tbh I don't think it is and think it's viral related but my son does seem ok in himself so not too worried. If it carries on I will take him to our usual doctors when they are open again.

DS gets this after a virus sometimes. It's in his hip joints. Not common but nothing to worry about, according to the doctor.
