Is there some sort of warning or indication that periods are likely to start soon?

There is the Tanner scale which gives you the order in which the changes happen.
Dd is 11 and just started her periods last month. That was almost exactly 2 years from when I noticed breast buds appear and her hips begin to fill out.

dd11 has had breast buds for over a year, her hair and face are increasingly greasy but no other changes as yet.
Oh except stroppiness Grin

I have bought a couple of those lil-lets teen starter packs though, she has one at home and one in her school bag.

Dd is 12, has had tender breast buds for at least a year, but they've only just started showing. She's not greasy-skinned at all, and can still get away with only washing her hair once a week. She's actually getting more slender in proportion to her height, despite having an excellent appetite. I thought girls generally chub up a bit in the run-up to periods.

She's got a couple of little 'kits', one for school, one for home.

I started periods at 13, but can't for the life of me remember what else happened when.

I couldn't remember what happened when either I was always frantically checking to see where she was at.
Dd's hair got a little greasier but has had no spots yet. She didn't really chub out much but her shape definitely changed less straight up and down and more hips and waist.

Dd is 11, has had breast buds for at least a year, has got pubic hair but no underarm hair and started her period 2 months ago. She has started to get some spots on her forehead and shoulders and keeps sprouting upwards while slimming down a bit.

From what I read, girls seem to have significant (but not complete) breast development and also a big height growth spurt just before they start. Most girls won't grow more than 1-2 inches after first menses.

Only previous time I asked about this on MN I got accused of being a pervert, though, and no one would comment, so expect to see this all deleted.
