DS1 is normally pretty regular and although his stools have always been fairly soft I have always put it down to him stil lbeing BF. However right now it is definitely diarrhea which he has had off & on over the last few weeks.... I dont really know what to do. The nursery have not mentioned it to me (where he goes 5 days a week) but weekends and evenings suggests "things" are really not right...... this evening and yesterday he was obvioulsy in some discomfort too as he told me his bottom was sore and his tummy "on the inside" was sore too. He seems to go more too but he is no longer in nappies so no idea how many times he is going at nursery (we are not in the UK so no one keeps a record here!!)
I cannot work out what might be causing it or whether it is no single thing...
potential triggers:
- sugar - he seemed to drink a lot of juice and sugary things people gave him over the weekend and in the past I have wondered about sugar for similar reasons
- bread - I didnt used to give him bread because i thought it affected his digestion him but then he started demanding it (>6 months ago & didnt trigger a reaction then)
- anxiety - his dad has been away and his behaviour is out of syc with how he normally is (lots of crying and clinginess); could it also upset his stomach?
At what point should I take him to the GP? They tend to over medicate here so I really dont want to take him if it is not necessary.......
