she has a real nasty case of flu and refuses to eat anything. i'm grateful if she sips a few sips of juice every few hours. this is going on for almost three days already. what am i to do? dr. says just to make sure she drinks but she seems weak. any suggestions?

Sounds horrible. Maybe try a silly curly straw or a cup with a cartoon character on that sort of thing. If that doesn't help don't wait too long, take her back to GP and say you are worried about dehydration, she may need IV fluids. Is she weeing often enough etc?

tried distracting her plenty times. she just clamps her mouth shut. did notice her diaper was dry in the morning. will try pedialyte with a syringe. sounds awful of me i know but what else can i do. she wont voluntarily take anything.

Sounds like you are doing everything you possibly can, if her diaperd are dry you really do need to see a doctor quite soon, I had this situation with DS in the past. After 24 hours on IV fluids to combat dehydration he was so much better. He had a sore throat which was why he wouldn't eat/drink. Hope your little one is better soon.

Ice pops are good for poorly children.

Seeline · 27/01/2015 10:40

Was going to suggest ice lollies too.
Or ice cubes of frozen juice, ice cream or frozen yogurt.

Anaesthetic throat spray? (check with pharmacist for age limits first though).

Mine never went for lollies but would eat jelly when their throats were sore.
Good luck.
