9 year old girl having night sweats - puberty?

I posted in this section about DD a few months ago and got some very helpful replies. This is (I hope) on the same theme - is sweating a lit specifically during the night part of the onset of puberty for girls does anyone know, or a sign she's ill? Shehas had a run of winter bugs and then a UTI since Christmas, but I'd back at school now - only to waking at night sweaty. She doesn't have a high temperature though. Dr Google throws up awful worst case scenarios for night sweats, but I am hoping it's down to normal hormones!

my dd has had insomnia and has been hot then cold at night for a a while and she started her periods last week. I think it is all connected

Thanks Demented. DD thinks She has insomnia but she doesn't :o She claims to lie awake, but when I check on her when I go to bed, or when her youngest brother wakes, or if I go to the loo in the night, she is always fast asleep.

She's a bit of a drama queen so I tend to play things down, then end up wondering whether something really is wrong...

dd was terrible in the night over the christmas holidays. Up and down like a yo yo, pj's on and back off again, fan (!) on and off again, sore tummy, sore head, etc, etc. I was glad to get her back to school!

Thanks demented that sounds like my DD too! She had to have a shower before school as she was sweaty guess that'll have to be factored in to mornings regularly somehow!

oh god, I have to force dd into the shower every couple of days and then once she's in I have to drag her back out again as she takes so long in there

DD loves an evening bath, and had one last night - I'm not really ready to switch to morning showers, and not looking forward to the logistics of eventually having 3 teens and 2 adults all needing to shower on a weekday morning! How do people manage that with only 1 shower and everyone needing to leave by 7 am?

I don't mean to alarm you but I would get her checked. Night sweats can be indicative of illness. It's more than likely not but it is definitely a symptom worth running by your GP.

I think she is facing some nightmares and may be that's why she has such sweats problems at night. It is better if you get some suggestions of your family doctor he will definitely give you a better solution.

Argh. Ok :( She has an appointment anyway on Friday just to confirm that a UTI she had antibiotics for last week is fully gone - will bring the night sweats up then just in case! :(

Girls have breasts developed about 18 months to 2 yrs before puberty? I think?

I really meant periods.

There's no rule to that nick - I started my periods at nearly 11 but certainly didn't have breasts at 9 - for ne there might have been some development before my periods started, but I didn't get my first bra til after. As far as I remember there wasn't much time between the two.

MrTumb, had you had any hair in areas such as underarms etc before periods? I have been keeping a close eye on my 11 yr o dd. Because she is still tiny I always worry she s running out of time to grow. Hair or periods or breasts or all adult teeth which comes first?

Dd had breast development from age 9ish probably, then pubic hair and then her periods started (2weeks ago!) at the age of 11. She has no underarm hair yet

Baby teeth has nothing to do with it - the dentist removed my final 4 baby teeth when I was 17 :)

I honestly can't remember personally when ppublic hair came in the order of things. I'd pretty much stopped growing at 12, but I was 5 ft 6 then - one of those girls who was almost tallest in the class at the end of primary but middle of the group by age 16.

DD has breasts buds (she found one and panicked about what it was) but is average size - about 136 cm at just under 9.5 (4 ft 6 or 4 ft 8 maybe). She's one of the smaller girls in her class, but young for her year so doesn't mean much.
