Temp 39.1 had calpol and nurofen

Ds2 has temp of 39.1, can't have any more Calpol or Nurofen for an hour. He is very rough in himself, normally fairly robust. Walk in tonight or GP tomorrow? Hoping we can get him better for Thursday. Sorry forgot he is 3yrs.

Is he weeing?
Drinking?
Does he have a cough/cold?
Rash?
If he is drinking and weeing then then it's prob a virus - nasty one doing the rounds ATM.
Keep staggering with calpol and neurofen.

That's very tricky. Mine always has very high temperatures so is this normal for him? However, if he is not responding to any painkillers, then I would definitely head to walk in now.

We're debating the same here! DS (2.5) is responding to nurofen and calpol but the cough/cold he's had for 2 weeks has decided to bring out the big guns for the week that's in it.

How's the snot situation with your little one? DS is still yellow/green so I'm going to leave it til the morning to decide.

Drinking/ seeing. Has a cough, sounds a little wheezy (maybe bronchiolitis?). DS1 temp was always sky high when ill (39.8-40) but Ds2 doesn't really. DH will be home with DS1 in a bit so will readers then. De ja cue, DS1 was ill his first Xmas, spent the week back and forward to hospital (he had bronchiolitis).

I always thought that with bronchiolitis they stopped drinking/feeding?
At least, mine did.
If he is wheezy then perhaps trying to get an appt at the gp/ooh would be a good idea.

No snot here. Hope your little one gets better soon. Both my kids have terrible timing!

It did with Ds1 bad but wondered if it was different as he was 5mths when he had it. kids!

I know! :)...mine are older now but both have this horrid cold/cough combo that's doing the rounds ATM :(
I think a lot depends on how they seem rather than temp reading iyswim?
So a child could have a high temp but be happy and settled on calpol.
But if a child has a high temp and lethargic,floppy,not eating or drinking then they need to be seen IMO.

Been backwards and forwards with 4 year old to drs. Had a cold, cough, temperature, red ears etc. Had two lots of antibiotics which did nothing. Now they say it's a virus and that there's some v nasty viruses going around. Has been ill for about 5 weeks.

Well he went from hot, shivering, crying sorry state to bouncing off the walls. Still a bit hot tonight but guessing viral. Will ride it out unless he gets worse overnight. Still find it hard to get my head around.him as my first never got over things easily, always needed antibiotics, usually two lots.

Dd has this too after a week with a bad cold she is now crying with ear ache and has a rash, her temp isn't too high ( just slightly raised ), we shall be going to gp in the morning unless she gets worse in the night. I have never seen so much snot .

Grump I feel your pain about not knowing what to do. When DD was about 9 months old, she had a bit of a cough she didn't shake for nearly 2 weeks, so I thought I'd better get her checked over. She was eating all round her, in fine fettle and no sign of a temperature. I was so unconcerned, I sent DH to the doctor with her pfb. Turned out she had a really bad chest infection that was touch and go for pneumonia. Even the minders at daycare were amazed at how sick she was. DS never follows the rules either. He runs hot at the best of times (the top half of his head seems to be permanently feverish) but one night at 1am he had a temp of 40.2 so I rang the Aviva nurse line to get advice about bringing him to A&E. When she heard him giggling and playing clap handies with his Dad, she agreed he was fine to see the gp in the morning!

I think whatever he has now is viral too. He has eaten more than DH today and when the calpol kicked in, he was playing musical chairs with DD in the kitchen. The snot is clear or at worst yellow, but nothing green. He is totally wiped out though so we might have to spend the next 2 days on the couch.

Hopefully everyone gets a good night's sleep and feels better in the morning!
