I was worried about this happening because I have had them several times a year for as long as I remember! I can't find much information online apart from the dead baby horror stories, does anyone have any advice about keeping it away from him?

I can't just hand him over to someone else because he is EBF.

I had one when I was pg too and read that that can mean they get some immunity against the virus (?) but I'm not sure if that's true and obviously don't want to take any chances!

I have stopped giving him kisses and am washing my hands a lot. I put Bonjela on if that will do any good.

I would use an antiviral cream ASAP and speak to a pharmacist or your GP about other precautions- this mentions a coldsores patch which would cover it and presumably reduce the chance of transmitting the infection.

Those patch things are excellent. Bonjela is pretty useless imo, you need an antiviral cream. But go for a patch, it will cover it up and reduce the time you have it for. FWIW I regularly get cold sores and none of my children have caught them from me, nor has DH. I am just sensible with kissing, handwashing, towels, cups etc but I don't take any other particular measures.

[[http://www.compeed.co.uk/compeed-coldsore/invisible-cold-sore-patch]] are the patches - you can get them in any pharmacy.

Thanks Cas - there is a pharmacy across the road from me so I think I will pop over there because I don't have any anti viral cream anyway! Patches sound sensible.

Good to know your dc are cold sore free Miss! I'm pretty sure I got mine from my Dad as a baby so I don't intend to keep it in the family, so to speak!
