Temperature 38.5 and no other symptoms aged 7 months

My 7 month old came home from nursery ill today with temperature of 38.5 (I've just taken it again now and that was result). He is sleeping a bit more often but is alert when awake if not quite his usual happy self. He only wants to bf (thank god have not stopped!) and hardly eaten solids.

Other than that no real symptoms, no spots or rashes, not really grumpy or distressed. He is asleep now.

He has had calpol and calprofen since coming home according to packet instructions.

My instinct is he is ok and to let him sleeps and bf when he wakes with calpol every 4 hours. Any advice?

Maybe teeth if he only wants milk? Sounds like you're handling it just fine to me.

Sounds like you're doing it all right. Dd always got fevers. If it lasts for more than three days or doesn't go down with medication then see a doctor just in case. 38.5 isn't too high. Plenty of fluids.

You're doing all the right things..temp isn't horrendous and thank god for boobie when they're a bit off colour.

Thanks all. I wondered about teeth but he hasn't had seemed so hot with them before. I know it's not horrendously high but it's the first time he's been more than a little bit hot.

Boobie is proving a great asset with this temperature/illness so am pleased I have continued this far (has been more due to his great love of it than anything else, although he is fine with bottles when I'm not there).

There is chicken pox at his nursery but he doesn't have any spots and with dd she got these first before any temperature. I think that is what the nursery were worried about.

I think they can get a temp a day or two prior to pox but hopefully it's not that. Hopefully you won't have a bad night and he will wake up all spritely Smile
