ds (11) smells funny after each day at school

Bear with me, I know this sounds weird.

I pick him up each day just after 4 and within minutes of him getting in the car I can smell an odd fusty kind of smell. Not adult B.O., not school dining hall, .... I just can't describe it or understand it really.

He started using deodorant this summer and showers daily. He has a clean shirt and clean trousers (and clean underwear obvs,) each day. He goes off to school smelling normal (well no real smell of anything much)

He only has PE twice a week and so it's not that. His primary school uniform was predominantly cotton but the secondary school shirts and blazer are polyester and they can only remove the blazer when specifically given permission in warm weather. He has to wear a tie and keep his top button done up. The blazer itself doesn't seem to smell by itself when hanging up at home and I have already washed it each weekend just in case

His armpit region doesn't smell of B.O.

Could it be the synthetic fibres making him smell ? Or is he just giving off an "eau de secondary school" smell picked up from the class rooms ?

I'm getting paranoid that he'll be known as the smelly kid but he NEVER had this problem at primary school and wasn't wiffy in cotton t shirts etc in the summer holidays, when the weather was warmer than the current temperatures.

Eau de Secondary school I'm afraid. I'm surprised teachers don't have to wear gas masks, the whiff of even recently showered boy plus the ever present smell of lynx would overpower me.
Perhaps get him a nice body spray to use?

Eau de secondary school Grin

Ask him if one of his mates is wearing some sort of weird body spray or aftershave? That could be rubbing off on him.

I went to school last night for an Autumn Fair type event. I didn't find that the school smelt like ds does each evening.

It is so very mysterious, I think I'm developing a bit of an obsession in respect of the smell........

My DH was a submariner....he never has BO, but eau de submarine sticks around for days....perhaps a more extreme form of eau de secondary school?

My 12 yo DS comes home smelling of eau de scout hut once a week. Never notice a smell any other time.
