6 year old son suffering with pain in bottom

Hello, my son has been complaining of pain inside his bottom (not itching) for a few days now and last night it woke him up. I don't believe it is worms as he does not complain of any itchiness at all and I can't see any redness or swelling. He is also not having any trouble going to the toilet. He has mentioned when he breaks wind he feels a bit better. Is it possible he could be suffering with trapped wind and what is the best way to relieve this for him? thank you :-)

It could be proctalgia Fugax, which I believe I also suffer with. It starts as a dull ache in the anus and builds up until it is quite painful, attempting to go to the loo (and breaking wind) helps alleviate the pain sometimes.

Have a read of this and this

However, I would have a quiet word with your gp about it, maybe without your son first so as not to worry him Smile

Hope your gp can help.

My eldest feels pain, rather than itching, when he has worms (3 times nowSad ). Might be worth treating anyway?

i agree with sunny - my daughter does not itch with worms (and has had then quite a few times now)- but wakes in the night with pain (the worms lay their eggs at night which can hurt). It can be quite difficult to see the worms (I find a torch helpful - sorry tmi!) and there is no obvious redness/selling or anything. Personally I would treat for that just in case and if problem persists see a GP
