3/4 wk old baby not gaining weight

Anyone got any advice or been in same situation....please help!
Baby dropped a lot of weight from birth (but initial weight has been questioned as a mistake) but over 3 weeks she hasn't gained much weight and on our weigh today, she has lost an ounce.
I'm trying to breastfeeding but we've bee told to top up with formula now after every feed. I'm trying so hard with BF and feeding on demand, she is alert in th day and I feel like I spend my days on the sofa feeding (which in don't mind!). She has plenty of wet nappies and HV is happy with general health.
I happy she's healthy but I feel a but like I'm failing her as breast feeding is not enough. Latching is fine as 2 midwives and 2HV have seen and said its good.
Any help would be appreciated xxxx

My dd only ever gained 1/2 ounces a week and sometimes none, she was also bottle fed (if that makes a difference), my 2 ds's always put on about 6ounces a week. Have you measured her? Silly question but I have found that all of my dc never gained weight if they had had a growth spurt. (Dd did loose a couple of ounces one weigh in, but had grown 2cm).

She was measured the first health visitor visit but they haven't since. She defiantly has grown as her legs are too long for the baby grows now. I mentioned that to the HV today and she dismissed it really, didn't measured height and told me they were only concerned with weight. She's lost an ounce and half over a wk so maybe that is the case?

Sorry you're struggling.
Are you happy that the weighing are accurate-even after the question over the first one?

Is your baby back to birthweight yet?
As you probably know the best way to produce more milk, is to keep removing it as often as possible. Formula top ups can interfere in this process because your baby may drink less at the breast-although in some cases of course they can be necessary.

Did the HV offer you any other suggestions to remedy things?

Perhaps switch nursing? Breast compressions? May also be useful to check for tongue tie.

If you ask for this post to be moved to the breast and bottle
Feeding section, you'll probably get loads more replies!

Hope things get better for you. If you can get to a breastfeeding group, there should be someone there who can help you face to faceSmile

Thanks for your reply, I will post in other group.
They haven't suggested anything else just top ups to up her calorie intake as well as telling me to eat more.
They've checked tongue tie and she's fine x
