And not just a little if I hold them up I can almost see a patch of urine opposed to a dribble. I am getting worried that he will be picked up on it by his friends if he starts to smell. He does have a tendency to hold it denying he needs to go despite jiggling about. Sometimes he seems fine and then other times he is desperate to go straight away without warning. Should I be worried?? He doesn't have any accidents at night.

First off, check with GP for any sign of a UTI or other condition. If your GP is any good they will also be able to explain how the bladder works and it might help change his attitude to making time for the loo.

Second, it may be that after going he's in such a hurry that he hasn't pulled them down enough and a bit is left to go when his pants get hurriedly drawn up again which then makes a decent patch and will smell/come through to trousers.

It's amazing how many quite old boys have this issue, don't suffer from it, are tolerant of it and don't mention it when they notice it.

Ultimately the best solution may have to be being "called out" by another kid (my bet would be a girl not a boy). Traumatic shame might be the best incentive!
