Really sore and itchy reoccurring rash on 6yo

Can someone please help me with this rash on ds? It's always on his legs, comes and goes, is itchy, feels dry. If we put any cream on it, he is in agony. Can put cream on him fine when there is no rash. We have been to the GP and dermatologist but they never get to see it at its worst and despite photos they never seem to be interested.

Any ideas? Hoping the photo works.....

Um, could it be folliculitis? My Dd has that, but its taken a while to be diagnosed, and I had never heard of it!

Thank you, I will have a look at that. I've always assumed its eczema but not really sure now.

What did the doctors suggest? Has he had steroid cream incase its eczema?
