DS(8) home from school with pain in abdomen

Left hand side, slightly higher than bellybutton and moving downand to the centre. He says it tryes getting sore just after getting to school, came home an hour ago. Pain increasing, groaning and asking me to 'do something'. Have had him try for a poo with no success, walk around to try and expel any wind, no success.

Am i right in thinking appendicitis is on the right hand side?

Appendicitis is usually on the right but in rare cases can present as left-sided pain.

Is the area tender if you prod it or just generally painful?

Singlesuzie · 11/06/2014 11:39

Not tender when prodding or touching. He says just generally sore.

It is possible for some people to have their appendix on the left hand side rather than the right (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situs_inversus) It could also be a UTI (although rare in boys), or a pulled muscle. Does it hurt when he moves?

Singlesuzie · 11/06/2014 11:47

It doesmt appear to be any more painful when he moves as i was getting him to do some gentle stretches to release wind. But he is walking funny, like holding his torso to the side if that makes sense?

Ah, OK. Can you pop him to the GP? Try to take a urine sample with you, just incase.

Took him for a wander round the garden while i hung washing and he suddenly perked up and started skipping Hmm i asked if he was feeling ok to go back to school and he said yes Confused so i've just left him back. Techer declared it a miraculous recovery but will keep an eye on him.

Grin Maybe he just needed to trump? I'm pleased he's OK.

Singlesuzie · 11/06/2014 13:10

Yes thats what i reckon but he usually wouldnt be too shy to say if he'd farted Grin ah well, i'm just glad he's better. I realised after i left him back that he will have missed his dinner. He didnt want anything to eat when he was home so he'll be starving this afternoon.
