Sore and red at base of penis (sorry - tmi?)

My little one has some serious red, itchy soreness that sometimes 'cracks' and bleeds, on the skin, right where the base of his penis joins his body. Have been to the GP who suggested a fungal infection and prescribed a topical cream - used it for 2 weeks - no improvement. Tried Sudocream and it seemed to get better, but if we forget to apply it for even one day, it cracks and bleeds again. Has anyone else dealt with this, and if so, what worked to get it all back to normal? Thanks in advance!

I found that an over-the-counter thrush treatment cured this, applied very thinly. Keeping dry is also key to preventing it from coming back. It might also be that the problem goes away as they grow up, which seems to be our experience

How old is he?

Stripeyred - He's 8

Heritagedetective - thanks for your reply and advice. I hear what you're saying about keeping dry - he's a sweaty little one, so I think this might be making the problem worse. I will speak with the GP about the thrush treatment - have got an appointment for Friday, so fingers crossed!

Thanks for your replies. The GP has given us a steroid based ointment and I hope that does the job.
