Pain when adult tooth coming down?

DD1 (6.5) has had a few adult teeth come down with no problem, but the most recent one seems to be causing some issues.

She had one of her front teeth knocked out at 18 months after a tumble down stairs. This is the one that is now finally coming down and she was complaining a lot this morning of it being very sore.

I gave her some calpol and sent her off to school, and have since managed to find the bonjela.

Has anyone had experience of this? Is it because there hasn't been a tooth there for so long?

Any suggestions on how to deal with it other than calpol, bonjela and sympathy?
