DS has some sort of weird monster cold sore welt thing on his chin

My DS has a big sore on his chin and a sort of spot/cold sore (has pus like a spot) near his lip. Initially I thought it was just really dried out skin from lots of spit,he seems to be quite dribbly at the moment and think maybe molars coming in(he is 2) but then the pus/white head formed and it also hasn't been helped at all by sudocreme or savlon. Any ideas?

Could it be impetigo?

JuniperTisane · 07/05/2014 21:13

Impetigo.

Oh damn I was afraid you might say that. Trip to the docs then? Is it contagious? Should I not be sending him to nursery?

It's really contagious! Get to the GP. He needs a different towel to use too.

ZingWatermelon · 08/05/2014 07:25

sounds like impetigo.
highly infectious.

GP, cream prescribed, no nursery/playgroup.

sorry, they look awful.if it keeps reoccurring get a swab done from his nose - the culture will tell if he has the Staphylococcus bacteria present in his nose.
if he does, he will keep reinfecting himself by picking nose - bacteria under nails - scratching face - tiny cut on skin - bacteria get in - infection.

Thanks so much for all help. It is weird because me and DH haven't caught it and he has had since weekend.

Did he get this because I am not vigilant enough with the cleaning etc? I do wash his face every day but he has a touch of eczema so doesn't have that many baths.

I'm a a bit casual about hygiene I suppose have always been of belief that a bit of dirt never hurt anyone etc!

Feeling like a bit of a slack and grubby mum!

Don't be daft. He's caught it from some other little darling at nursery I expect. It's highly contagious. You can't really prevent small children being fairly disgusting in close proximity very easily. It just happens Smile

Def sounds like impetigo. Buts it's def nothing you've done a bit of dirt never hurts a child. And def try to get get a swap cus other poster is right about reinfect ion staphylococcus infection quite common and nothing to worry about. A course flucloxacillin will clear it. Just pop towels and flannels etc on a boil wash to stop reinfection
