our dd has been ill off and on since November, lots of coughs, colds, high temperatures, ear infections and gunky eyes. she is nearly 13 months. went to doc again last week (I don't even need to give her name anymore at reception) and doc thinks could be this bronchial spasm making her more susceptible to infections etc. we are trialing an inhaler thing for a month to tackle. has this happened to anyone else? doc inferred might be a precursor you ashtma...which is bit scary. she has also just started nursery (2 months ago) so probably/possibly getting every bug going because of that.

It would be rather early to diagnose allergic broncho spasm (asthma)...it is more common for children to get bronchiolitis at this age which is a lower respiratory tract infection with cough and wheeze associated with fever and other symptoms of ingfection.

If this is the case the inhaler (if taken through a spacer device) should give some relief.

The good news is that bronchiolitis is not always a precursor to asthma and most children grow oout of it by the age of 3 (although some are prone to wheezing til 4-5).

I am sure that the extra infection load due to nursery won;t be helping....but that will pass.

that really does, thank you so much for replying. I think I had heard she was too young to say ashtma and she doesn't seem to have allergies, so will keep fingers crossed and hope she grows out of it. thanks
