Dd is 2.5 and has recently become increasingly lethargic. She now falls asleep a couple of hours after waking and whenever we go anywhere in the car (she dropped naps ages ago). She hasn't been obviously ill or had temps. She's not as bothered about eating as she was either. She can have good phases - able to play/dance/run about and seems happy, but then will curl up and sleep.

GP thinks viral but it has gone on for a while now.

We're going for blood tests for anaemia but she has no other symptoms.

Any ideas or similar experiences?

We've had bloods done now and now just waiting for results. I'm trying hard to stay away from Dr Google.

Just seen your post and didn't want to go unanswered. Glad that you are pushing for bloods which will hopefully reassure you that there is nothing to worry about. My friends daughter went through a time like this and was worried but then she realised that she had had a huge growth spurt and that seemed to the root cause. Hope results cone back ok. Does she seem to be drinking or weeing more?

I was also going to suggest massive growth spurt but pleased you're also having blood tests done. I would also get her playing outside as much as possible and even if her appetite is a bit off make sure she's drinking enough. Hope all is well and it's just one of those random toddler phases.

Thanks for the reassurance. Yes, she is thirsty a lot of the time, but a urine dip showed no sugar so I think that's ruled out diabetes.

I do hope it is just a growth spurt, she's just not herself.

Hope your little one is on the mend.

ask for coeliac screen

FoodieToo · 09/04/2014 15:56

Hi, I had my son tested for diabetes a few years ago.
I had hoped my GP could do it in surgery.

However, the lack of sugar in urine does not definitively mean the person does not have diabetes unfortunately. You need the blood test for that.

Ds had to be at hospital fasting. He had a canula fitted and then was given a glucose drink. This happened three times and bloods taken about thirty minutes after the drinks.

Thankfully it was negative . But just wanted to let you know that if diabetes like symptoms continue that you should push for a blood test for it.

Hopefully it's nothing. I remember all mine going through very lethargic phases at that age.

My friends DD was like this and is coeliac.
