6yr old daughter eye rolling tic - what is it?

Hi just wondering if anybody else had experience of this. My 6yr old daughter, who is an identical twin, has recently started rolling her eyes. I think she did it occasionally previously when uncomfortable or embarrassed but a month ago it started to increase. I pointed it out to her gently, as wanted to see if she realised and also to say that enrolling may appear rude to some people, like teachers. She said she couldn't help it and got a bit upset so I dropped and reassured her it was fine, just one of those things. After this we had a very busy time at home, with visitors and lots going on and she and her sister were overtures. At this point the eyerolling really stepped up! We took her to our GP and were told to keep an eye on it, that it MAY be a tic or mild seizure...I admit I was a little worried. Then as we have all had more rest and relaxation, and stopped mentioning it to her it seems to have drastically decreased. She is still doing it but about 80% less than before?
Anybody else had experience of this or who could shed some light on it?

My brother did this at primary school age - he said it was like his eyeballs were stuck together. We didn’t think anything of it (this was early 1980s so medicine has come on since then) but he was diagnosed with epilepsy in his early 20s.

@MilkToastHoney Was your child diagnosed with seizures through and EEG before they turned into bigger ones or were they missed when they were small seizures?

They were missed unfortunately. I did bring the eye rolling up several times with GP and various other HCPs but wasn’t really given a definite answer or had it taken seriously.
Wish I’d pushed more but you feel so silly making a big deal over eye rolling!

Big seizures came several years after eye rolling, loss of consciousness, full body fitting etc. They’ve since diagnosed the eye rolling as a type of mini seizure.

@hellswelshy hi, I know this is many many years later but what happened did this continue or did it stop on its own? Daughter currently doing the same thing, aged 5. Thanks

Hi there, she did get referred to the hospital by the GP for some tests to rule out anything neurological. It feels like ages ago now! It all came back clear. The tick cleared almost straight away after the hospital appointment, though she did develop another tic - a mouth one, where she'd open her mouth wide like a yawn. This disappeared after a few months too.
She's now 17 still a bit anxious at times and has adhd tendencies, may have been related, but who knows. Mainly though she's happy and healthy ☺️

@hellswelshy ah thank you so much for responding, how time flies. Glad to hear she's happy and healthy and the tic stopped on its own and didn't need any intervention. I might get my girl checked out too just to be safe although I'm pretty sure it's just a tic. Thanks again
