DD keeps being sick but only small amounts, getting worried about it now as she looks poorly

My DD is 6, she's active and generally healthy.

She's had loose bowels on and off for a few months and complains of tummy ache often.

Over the last week or so she's been sick, but only small amounts. She says she doesn't know it's going to happen and it just comes up in her mouth?

Its happened about six times today but I hadn't witnessed it. However, we were playing a game earlier and she had just had a biscuit and sick literally poured out of her mouth.

She looked so scared as she said she didn't know it was coming again. I've also noticed she's eating very little and gets full very quickly. Her tummy also looks distended and she looks very pale.

I'm going to take her to the doctors on Monday but they always say it's a virus and I'm worried.

It's like the food isn't reaching her tummy but sitting further up?

Any ideas what it could be?

It doesn't really sound like a bug to me, but there could still be a reasonable explanation, like an allergy. I would definitely tell the GP exactly what you've written here to make sure he has the full picture and can do the right investigations if needed. Good luck!

That's not normal, I can't believe your doctor hasn't referred you yet.

I would just go and and say you're worried (list her symptoms) and ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist.

Is there any blood in her stools?

Your poor dd, I'd deinitely be getting her seen ASAP.

With those symptoms ... Possibly Coeliac?

It doesn't sound like a virus to me. The sickness sounds like reflux, but that is clearly not the only issue. Hope it goes ok.

One thing it could possibly be is gastritis. H.Pylori is a bacteria that can be tested for and causes it in children.

GPs often fob you off for a week, as most D&V is just a bug that will clear up by itself.

I thinkyou need to go back and be extremely clear about the duration of the symptoms as well as what they are. If GP suggests virus again, you need to ask how many other cases they have seen locally with this duration for symptoms and if so how much longer it can be expected to last. If none, then start pressing for referrals.

Sounds just like my DD, 6yrs. She got referred to a gastroenterologist and was tested for coeliac, lactose intolerance and then tested positive for fructose intolerance. She's on 20mg of omeprazole and is on a sugar and fruit free diet (nightmare!) but is much much better. Shadows have gone from under her eyes, is rarely sick and doesn't get that swollen sore tummy.

Jump up and down and insist on a referral, it really sounds like an intolerance to something.

Agree it needs investigating. If they don't offer, ask directly to be referred.

I had DS investigated for similar (he was fine btw) and said I am worried, it's persistent, I'd like him to be referred to paeds please. If they refuse, ask them to document it then when you go back in a week or so, ask again. They know they will look bad if somethings wrong, you've asked twice and they've said no.

Hi, bit of an update, we've been referred to pediatrician. Luckily I've got Benenden Healthcare so can go to see one privately next week, as I really don't want to wait.
