So, over a week ago dd1 (11) gets up from the sofa and realises she can't straighten her right leg or put any weight on it – when she tried she experienced a lot of pain around her knee. This was completely out of the blue and she had not been complaining of any pain before this. We thought it was to do with a long car journey we had taken the previous day where she was sat in one position for 3-4 hours at a time over a period of 12 hours. We took her to the GP who said monitor it & take ibuprofen but if it didn’t get any better take her back. It didn’t so yesterday (over a week since it happened) the GP referred her to A&E. After 4.5 hours and an xray later no further with a diagnosis but after seeing the A&E Dr & the Orthopaedic Dr she was sent home with a leg brace, crutches and we were told to wait for a phone call giving us an appt for an MRI scan.
My issue is twofold:
-
When putting the leg brace on her the nurses (there were 3 of them!) needed to straighten her leg whilst putting it on which caused dd a lot of pain and distress (she was in tears and it was horrible to watch). I didn’t question it at the time but when I told dh he was not happy as to why they would do that without knowing what exactly was wrong with her knee. This was echoed by colleagues at work so now I feel like the world’s worst mother for allowing it to happen in the first place without questioning them first
. She has to wear this brace 24/7.

We were told she is not to return to school until they have a diagnosis or further info from the MRI (she has not been back to school this term yet as GP advised rest last week). We have been in touch with her school and her teacher sent home some work last week but I am worried she is missing too much.
Can anyone explain these symptoms and/or advise how to deal with drs once she’s had the MRI?
