Any ideas?
Not a swollen gland as I get them a lot so know what they are.
I'm panicking a bit as I know it is also a symptom for something horrific.....Hmm

So if its not a gland, could it be anything else harmless?

No point speculating. Get her to a doctor.

oohdaddypig · 29/12/2013 22:01

Didnt want to read and run.

My friends child this and it was caused by a virus.

Is your child otherwise well?

X

Yeah will do but can't ring till 8am. Will try not to speculate till then but that's a long time........

Actually she did have a virus about 3/4 weeks ago, and is now carrying another cold......that could well be a reasonable explanation.

Sounds reasonable. Good luck at the appointment and hopefully you will be reassured. X

Why are you sure it is not a gland? There are a network of glands all over the body.

My son had a lump just over his collar bone for about 6 months.
It was a gland. The doctor kept an eye on it but it was fine.

That was when he was two. He s a cheeky 9 year old now!!

Hope you got reassurance today.

Boobybeau · 30/12/2013 23:36

I had this panic a few months ago and it turned out to be a gland (although it wasn't in a glandy place) go to the drs for your peace of mind be I'm sure it will be fine.

paddyclampo · 31/12/2013 15:51

My DS has had loads of these and the hospital weren't worried, did bloods all normal. How can you tell it's not a gland? Where abouts in her neck?

Hi my DD had 2 lumps in back of neck... They are glands but not the normal throat glands we think of with sore throats.
I was beside myself but GP was entirely unconcerned, quite normal on kids apparently. No further tests necessary and they cleared themselves after a few months.

PJ67 · 31/12/2013 20:41

My son had a gland in his neck when he was about the same age and it was visible especially if he was unwell or when he turned his head to the side. He's 14 now and I can still sometimes make it out.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 31/12/2013 20:43

My dd had an infected cyst under the skin in her neck when she was about three.
They operated on her but the infection spread so she needed a second op to clean it out (this was just bad luck) . She was fine though and bounced back.

Similar to PJ, I noticed a gland in my ds1's neck when he was 1 year old. Got referred to a specialist who reckoned it was nothing to worry about, but said it might remain visible until his neck filled out a bit as he got older. He's now 15, skinny as a rake, and it's still visible at times!

SweetTeaVodka · 31/12/2013 21:13

Did you manage to see the GP, Wine? Hope all is well x

WineAndSunMakesMeHappy · 02/01/2014 19:18

Sorry folks.....didn't realise people were still posting.
Yep, got on fine. GP thinks it could well be a cyst, but because of all the viruses and colds going around isn't totally convinced. We are going to review in a month, unless it changes in the meantime (gets bigger), which would probably mean it is a cyst and we will then look at dealing with it. But with any luck it may just be virus related.

Thanks for all your messages and kind words.

Happy New Year...

Thanks wine!

Glad it's relatively uncomplicated either way.
