Think 5yr old DD2 may have tinnitus. Any experience?

Last night DD2 cuddled up and told me that she hears "alarms" in her ears when it is quiet - especially at night. I have tried to gather more info but she just says that it is always like that and seems quite matter-of-fact about it. I can't get much more from her about what the noise sounds like or how loud it is.

DH suffers from it a bit and hates silence as a result - he always has music playing. And my Dad also has it quite badly.

I am a bit Sad that she is so little and may have to live with this. And I don't think there is much that can be done, is there? I must do some research.

Have you checked with doctor? Our youngest DC complained of earache and her nursery teacher thought she wasn't always able to hear when she called her. Doctor very quickly referred us to ENT child specialist who was great and had very clever ways of doing the tests so that they were child proof ..good luck

As hattyyellow says, take her to the GP and get an ENT referral, that should be simple enough. Ear problems can often be succesfully treated, espicially when caught early.

Ds has this when his gleu ear is playing up. He describes it as sounding like the freezer.

Thank you for the reassurance.

Apart from a bad ear infection when she was very little, she's never reported any ear issues before. I will make an appointment for after Christmas and in the meantime try to establish more facts about the alarm noises.
