Pink eye, sticky eye, sore eye - almost every day.

Hi, My son is 10. He wakes almost every day with his right eye stuck shut. Even if it isn't sticky, the white part is completely pink. He often cries with pain from it in the mornings. He's had numerous drops for conjunctivitus (the doctor said it was not the contagious kind but an allergy induced kind??) Recently we went to an allergy centre where he had the pin prick test on his arm - it was a completely negative test which surprised the doctor and myself. My husband is very allergic to dust mites and cats and I was convinced it was a dust mite thing as it happens when he first wakes up. I'm quite worried now because when you look at him face on his right eye looks sore and half shut a lot of the time. Any ideas??? Thanks.

Could he keep some eye make up wipes in his room to wipe his eye in the morning so at least it isn't painful to open it?

My oh had similar as a child eventually he just grew out of it but didn't find out the cause. Our ds had it for a month but it cleared up on a trip abroad so we didn't find out the cause - will have to see if it comes back.

Could be belpharitis. This causes sticky eyes, especially in the morning. This needs treatment with drops and daily lids washing. Check it with the doctor or optician.
