Stopping ranitidine for slient reflux - I have some questions..

Anyone have experience of taking their silent refluxing baby/toddler off ranitidine? My 19mo has been on it for a few months, it's really helped. She's also had cranial osteopathy which appears to have made a massive difference (or maybe it's co-incidence, who knows!) but she's much calmer and sleeping better. So it seemed like a good time to stop her ranitidine.

But I was wondering...
Are you supposed to just stop it, or reduce the dose gradually?
If you've done this, how did it work out for you? Did you notice the reflux recurring (and what symptoms)?

I'm curious because DD has suddenly started waking loads in the night, wanting to be latched on constantly, is very clingy and has her hands in her mouth, but there's no cough or spitting up or wet burbs etc so am not sure if it's reflux or something else. Feeling guilty for giving her drugs, feeling guilty I might be making her suffer without her ranitidine. Ho hum.

Anyone?

I'd ask my GP but I can't get an appointment for 2 weeks and they have been really unhelpful regarding DD's reflux.

Hi my dd was on ranitidine from six days old till over a year.

When we started to take her off ranitidine we took out a dose at a time, starting with the morning, then left a few weeks and took another out. We found when we took out the evening one that's when we had our issues. We tried to take her off a few times with no success, and then we tried again about three months after the rest.

I would keep your dc on it all the time they're showing signs. It did dd no harm.

Should add the symptoms in the nights were the screaming, arching her back, bringing up clear liquid, not settling down for bed where she had done previously.

Thanks sparkle. She's on 2 doses a day. Not had any of the expected spitting up but lots of squealing in the night and very difficult to settle. I gave her a 3/4 dose this evening, somehow a full dose felt like yo-yo-ing, but really have no idea what I'm doing.
I'm glad your little one was finally ok.

My dd was on ranitidine from 4 wks and we stopped cold turkey at 8mo. Didn't experience any problems otherwise would have given it to her again.
