Hi there. Im a first time mom. And every little thing over stresses me. I took my baby to the clinic yesterday. And all was well except when they measured his head they noticed that it had gone from the 25th centile upto the 25th within a period of 5 weeks. The HV seemed concerend as he said it was a lot to grow in 5 weeks. I went to my gp today amd although she said baby seems fine she thinks it would be best for him to have a scan. I will be taking him in this week. Is it possible that there is any other cause for rapid head growth, apart from fluid in brain. That was the first time they measured since the peadeatrician measured him bfre beibg discharged from hospital. He was vitamin deficient. So i have been giving him vitamin d drops as prescribe by doctor. He is formula fed. Any sort of advice comments anything welcome. Please help

I would try to not worry too much. My nephew was similar and was born on the 9th centile but quickly jumped to around the 75th, by 8 months he was on the 99.9th (for height and weight) and has stayed there since and he is nearly 5

also are you sure it was measured accuratly both times? it would only take a few cm difference to make it a big difference in centiles.

DS never had his head measured at all!

Try not to worry. Really easy to be out a cm or two, depending on who was doing the measuring, tape may have been to far down or up or at a different angle etc.

you need same person same tape measure measuring him and someone v experiwinced - sonds silly but as said a different measurer can get diff reading. dont worry too much.

dd1 went from 9th to 50th on head growth between birth and 6 week check. No-one commented, I just assumed it was dodgy measuring.
