Hi folks. Can anyone shed any light on this? He had a bug on Friday 25th. He was poorly again on the Sunday and was finally admitted to hospital on Tuesday last week after one more vomit and loads of retching which left him a bit dehydrated. He stopped retching on Wednesday lunchtime but has been complaining of this 'piece of sick stuck in his throat' since the first episode of vomiting on the Friday night. (Sorry for tmi). I am assuming that he scratched or England his throat in the process but he feels like it is moving and it is bothering him still. It's not affecting him breathing or eating bland food, but he does keep doing lots of funny swallows. This isn't something I've experienced and I'm wondering if any if you have. How long until I see the GP? I have checks that he didn't have the sensation befor being ill and he definitely didn't have tonsillitis as they checked in hospital. If I ask him where it hurts, he points mid way down his neck and says it's on the inside. Any thoughts gladly received.

I think a trip to The gp and some gaviscon is in order.
My ds2 had pharyngitis and after vomiting like your ds was left with the sensation you describe.
I took him to the gp and she gave him gaviscon - adult one - and it did help.

Thanks Badvoc. I have got gaviscon for him due to the unsettled nature of his tummy (and ongoing intermittent reflux). I guess it needs checking first though. Poor little skinny man. Need a plan for his weight anyway as he is now below the 25th for weight and above the 75th for height. With any other child, they'd regain it quickly, but he has no fat in his diet so will take me months. Sad

Hmmm...hs the gp given you anything for his weight issues?
Is he under a paed?

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 03/11/2013 20:50

Yes, he's under the paediatrician but hasn't seen the dietician in 18 months as she felt I was managing him well. He's lost a lot in the week and looks truly dreadful. The hospital were only interested in the emergency medicine, not setting us back on the right long term path (and getting us out quickly before ds1 could infect them all). I rang the dietician on Friday but they didn't get back to me. More phone calls tomorrow I think.

Yes...that sounds very familiar :(
They lose weight so quickly at this age and it's so hard to out it back on.
In fact my ds2 is still not back to the weight he was prior to getting ill (back in June)

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 03/11/2013 21:14

Bless your ds2. I have fought so hard to get weight on him in the last three years and a whole year's worth has gone in a week. I'm worried that he'll be weak when the winter bugs hit.

Has he had antibiotics?
I put ds2 on pro biotics for 2 weeks after his last illness.
(Optibac was the brand I used)
Might be worth a go?
Ds2 also has iron liquid as he refuses all meat and eggs.
He eats loads of fruit and veg, but sadly that doesn't = weight gain!

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 03/11/2013 22:32

He hasn't had antibiotics.i need to find a probiotic that he can have (no dairy, soya or gluten). I tried to find some minadex for him today but couldn't find any. Will ask the GP or dietician tomorrow - whoever I can get hold of.

My ds has floradix iron liquid.
The probiotic I use is good because it's tasteless so I just add it to his apple juice.
I will check the pack...
It says yeast free, gluten free and vegetarian.

Thanks. I will ask around too for a CMP free one. The dietician today hadn't got a clue!
