Will my 6 yr old grow out of soiling?

Hi. My 6 yr old has had occasional soiling over the past year or two. He started on 1 sachet of movicol every day about 4 months ago but had 2 episodes over the last week as I forgot to give him it. I had been hoping that his bowel would have gone back to normal by now. Has anyone's child had this and grown out of it?

yes grown out of by the age of ten BUT the movicol regime was imperative during recovery (many many long years)

I'm sure they do eventually. For lots of kids though the movical sachets are long term. Ds started on them 2 years ago and still has issues. He is now 8. He hates movical now and so we have changed to high doses of lactulose instead.

I'm sure he'll get there eventually, but I understand your frustrations.

Thanks for your replies. Pedlars, how ,any years did your son stay on the movicol and how did you know when to stop. Our doctor initially said 6 months. Does anyone know the reason some kids get this?

Prob 4 years in total

You step down, say to one sachet every other day, see if the prob returns, if it does then step back up

Reasons why? Dunno what the official line is, in our exp - a day trip resulting in less fluid intake that day, resultant poo hard to pass, bam into witholding. That kinda thing.

I would say if he is still soiling his bowel is still impacted and this is overflow coming out? My 6 year old dd had this two years ago and we cleared the blockage by using high amounts of movicol under doctors advice over a few days then kept her on a maintenance dose of 1-2 sachets a day for a month then all was fine...she occasionally has a flare up and I know immediately as she has soiled her pants so I give her a few doses of movicol again to get things moving.
