My 15mo has an awful ulcer on tongue and can't sleep. How can I help? :-(

My DD is 15 months and has a whopper of a mouth ulcer on her tongue. She's barely had anything to eat today but lots to drink. It's so painful for her she keeps waking up sobbing and in a sweat. She has a dummy as a comforter but for obvious reasons it's not comforting her much tonight. I've given her Calpol and cold water but it's not helping much. What might help ease the pain for her? I don't have any bonjela to hand and home alone tonight so can't go buy any!

Oh poor little thing! I came across this link last week (sorry it's the Daily Mail) when googling for a solution for mine. I tried honey which did soothe them a bit.

Bonjela would numb it?

TheCrumpetQueen · 08/10/2013 21:22

Sorry just seen you don't have any, I would give her a lolly if you have one

Neurofen and ice lollys, I really sympathise my youngest DS had a mouth full of ulcers this summer, he was so miserable :(
Fab lollys with the bits washed off were all he ate for days.
Not very nutritious but we were desperate to get anything into him.
Good luck.

Anbesol is the stuff you need, you can get from Boots, it contains Lidocaine. Fine for babies and designed to numb ulcers. DD (21 months) had a very sore mouth about 3 weeks ago and this worked well.

No to bonjela, recent research shows something in it is bad children, I forget what.

Thank you. Will try and get hold of Anbesol today. I've been alternating between Calpol and Nurofen.

She's a bit happier today...managed to get a bit of porridge and a very small bit of banana into her at breakfast which is better than yesterday. But she's still feeling a bit sad and it still looks so sore Sad.

We now have a freezer full of mini milks!

Glad she's a little bit better! Fishybits The chemist told me new baby bonjela is fine, it's just the old school one that's dodgy. Smile
