Dd had one of these Friday and an indirect cystogram to look for kidney reflux. She has a condition that affects her kidneys but my understanding was it was to test for reflux due to her kidney infections.

However I stupidly googled it (as dd still seemed wiped out from it all, she has autism and seizures in response to stress as well as the condition so could have been any of those making her seem out of sorts) and found its more to test kidney function? I am now worrying they may be looking for something serious. Should have known to not google !

Wondering if this is something not so many children have had, maybe will need to repost in general health

One of mine was offered a MAG3 for kidney reflux, I declined it but was definitely told that's what it was for.

Thanks that is reassuring. Was worrying the other test was for reflux and this one for something else.

Think they both do similar things, DC had micturating cystogram which showed no reflux, then offered MAG one a year or so later just to check if reflux again - think MAG one must be better or clearer or something. Declined cos I didn't think there were any problems and we were so OVER hospitals by then Grin

My dc had this procedure for a blockage between his kidney and bladder. Can't think of the exact terminology but in my dcs case his problem resolved itself.

Thanks. Good to know it could have been with reflux in mind. I had a letter today with not great news regarding her condition so fingers crossed the results of this are better.

My dd has had one of these every other year all of her life
She is 15.
Dd was born with kidney problems. For her this scan is to check kidney function which works out how efficiently the kidneys work and the speed/time it takes for fluid to pass through the kidneys. It is commonly used where there is blockage or reflux suspected.

Please don't panic. A blockage usually is a narrowing somewhere in the urinary tract and if that is the case it can be easily rectified.

Thank you. My dd has a genetic condition which affects her kidneys so I am worried it's related to that esp as she has had high blood pressure for years and I think that can affect kidneys too.

But it's good to check and see how things are. Hope your dd is doing well.
