Black mark on 4yr old DS gum. Been referred...?!

Hi,
Just been to dentist regarding a small black mark on the inside of my DS's gum.
I expected the dentist to tell me it was nothing but she's referred onto a facial surgeon?!
I am freaking out a little.
Could someone please come and tell me why they might have referred me and what they're worrying over?
Thanks

I did ask at the time but she was cagey. Said it was just precaution.
I said 'might it mean a biopsy', and she just shook her said and said 'probably not, but better to be safe than sorry'.

Saw the surgeon last week. Booked in for a biopsy under general anaesthetic on Thursday.
In his first week at Primary School. Totally fell apart trying to explain to his new teacher why he won't be in for a few days next week.
Trying really hard to be strong and not think the worst but am terrified :(

Oh your poor thing what a horrible time for you. Hopefully by this time next week it will all be over and you will be able to carry on as normal. Waiting for stuff like this is just the worst isn't it.

Did the surgeon give any explanation as to what it may\may not be or have they left you totally in the dark?

Good luck will be keeping fingers firmly crossed for you.

He said it was a 'melanotic' something, but I cannot remember the second word. Tried googling it but gave up pretty quick.
He said 'chances are its nothing but only way to be sure it to test it', so they're going to remove it and then the worst bit will be the wait for the results... :(

Could it be a haematoma or a collection of blood type thing where a tooth has pushed through? Good luck next week.

212VIP · 13/09/2013 19:43

No. He's had teeth there for ages (behind where the first two bottom ones come through) and hasn't changed and doesn't look like a blood blister or bruise. Its like a dark pigmentation area.

Thanks for your words. Just got to wait and see I think x
