Anal rectoplasty for my 11month old DD

Hi ladies
Just had an appointment with my DDs surgeon. She has VACTERL association. 2 months ago she had open heart surgery to correct her CHD and now we're on to the next operation :(

She was born with a severely anterior anus. Cut a long story short we've had 11 months of pure hell trying to help DD open her bowels without excruciating pain and her specialist has said she will need a stoma fitted and 'posterior Sagittarius anal rectoplasty' as soon as she can be put under GA again.

I have never heard of anything like this before DD was born and have no idea what the next few months/years will entail. Just wondered whether there was anyone out there whose child has VACTERL association or has been through this operation.

To tell you the truth I think I'm dreading this op more than I was for the OHS. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi I hope you're well. Sorry for not seeing this last year. But hope things have progressed. My dd had this at 2 years old. She has been fine. Still has a few accidents due to not being able to hold poo but doesn't cry whilst pooing. Was a scary time but has definitely made a difference. Hope your dd is doing well xx

Can't believe no one could be bothered to answer this last year.....hope your DD has gotten better.

I think people just don't know much about it. So makes them wary to comment. I found this with dd.
