Has anyone seen a kinesiologist then got diagnosis confirmed by allergy expert?

I've posted about allergies/intolerances before, got utterly defeated by NHS/GP swatting me away.

But I am determined to find out what is causing my DCs' stomach problems and eczema. I think it's a wheat or gluten allergy as this runs in my family.

Trying to pluck up courage to see the GP again for a private referral. But in the meantime someone recommended trying kinesiology. We went and the results were pretty clear if you believe in "woo" stuff, not sure I do.

Has anyone tried kinesiology for their child then sought a medical diagnosis, and did it agree with the kinesiology "diagnosis"?

Also any recommendations for specialists accepted - have seen some on past threads for.the Portland Hospital ones.

Any tips on getting that type of advice on private insurance? This is actually effecting DD's school work so I do consider it to be pretty serious now.

I don't know about 'woo' diagnosis but would not be defeated by a gp if my dds health was involved and if you suspect a wheat or gluten intolerance could you try your own exclusion diet?

I expect that in some cases yes, but only because they give you a long list of common food allergies, and others +++.
its doesnt mean they are correctly giving you the right advice or diagnosis, the difference between intolerence, classic allergy and coeliac could be life and death.

so avoid.

As eragon says you will get a huge long list which will include most if not all of the main food allergens (the big 8) so yes they may be right but not in a helpful way.

In fact, I can do it for you. If you have a food allergy/intolerance it is highly likely to be to : dairy, eggs, soya, celery, nuts, wheat, mustard, fish/shellfish.

If wheat/gluten problems run in your family the chances are it's wheat/gluten, although possibly in conjunction with something else eg dairy.

You can change GP if this one is being unhelpful.

The thing is that DD's symptoms get worse and better. So at Easter I was all fired up and ready to see specialists, demand action from the GP, etc....and her symptoms all-but disappeared. I hoped we might be seeing the end of them. Just the past week or so it's all flared up again, hence my new resolve to get this sorted once and for all.

I will be seeing the GP again just as soon as I can get an appointment.

I have seen a kinesiologist and she picked up on one specific thing. She didn't just give a random list. I suppose it depends on how good they are. The one I went to has a very good reputation and I got several recommendations for her. I also hadnt given her information that roukd have led her to that diagnosis iykwim. I don't see any harm in following it up with another GP visit. Really push for a proper diagnosis/blood tests/ whatever and don't take no for an answer. If this is starting to cause problems with school then it needs to be sorted asap.

If it is something that comes and goes I would be looking at her stress levels.

Whatever the underlying cause stress often makes things like eczema and stomach problems worse. Keep a diary.

There was a newspaper report a few years back where someone had gone round several highly recommended allergy testers, and got given a long list of things from each they were apparently allergic to.
Interestingly very few of the lists had much in common and only one picked out the thing the reporter knew he was badly allergic to.

Have you tried excluding it yourself? That would be my first port of call.

Stress can pay a part of it, but so can weather as well as other factors.
I have a particular weather (cold and dry) that I can guarantee that I will end up with several large cracks all ov er my feet, very painful to walk on. But the weather changes and it clears and I won't have another crack until next time.

I guess it depends on how good they are. I have used one after a recommendation from a friend. This allergy test picked up that my son was intolerant to tomatoes afters months of a having a sore face/eczema. I had tried to cut out various things and keep a diary before that, but as it was an intolerance the symptoms could take a couple of days to show. Cutting out all tomato products and anything with tomato powder in for nearly two years worked. Every now and again we would try and add it in but a couple of days later his face would be up and sore. As I say after two years there was no reaction and he can now eat whatever he likes.
All doctors just dismissed his face as eczema without looking for a cause.
Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

they dont work, ( as for the tomato thing, thats a very common problem, a high histamine food, quite acidic can irritate kids skin and cause eczema.)

the people that practice this are not well regulated, and imo are not safe.
poor diagnosis and offering fake cures.

One death for a peanut allergic man after one of these cures is enough for me to advise people to avoid someone who hasnt got a medical degree or specialist consultant.

I don't think it's fair to tar everyone with the same brush. If a doctor makes a mistake with a diagnosis and the patient dies do you say doctors don't work/ aren't good/should be avoided at all costs?

To be fair the kinesiologist I saw recommended Aloe Vera juice and probiotics, as well as cutting out some foods. TBH I could have come to that conclusion myself as I know a bit about nutritional therapy at an amateur level, but his advice certainly hasn't been harmful.

I have thought some more about it.

I'm not going to do anything until the end of school term, as I can't control our diets 100% before then. I'm planning to use the holidays as my time to tackle this properly. But want to get some proper medical advice (of the Harley Street type if possible) before going ahead.

If a doctor makes a mistake they can be disciplined or struck off. Because they are supposed to be professional.

If a kinesiologist makes a mistake, even if it is fatal, no action will or can be taken because they are no more in a position to make judgements about your health than the woman who sells you the daily paper.

Definitely try excluding gluten. My DD was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease and as soon as she excluded gluten from her diet, her eczema disappeared.

I had to look up "kinesiology". Do people really go for this kind of moronic BS in this day and age?
