DS has had virus, sickness, ear infection and very strange tongue thing going on. Has had days of being back to normal self but the tongue issue keeps returning with a very high temp. He is still on anti biotics from last week
Yest was a live wire eating me out of house and home but today sleeping most of the day, high temp and licking his lips and complaining his tongue hurts. He seems to have raised taste buds but def not blisters or a thrush type white tongue. Any ideas???

His his tongue and lips red?

perfectmummy · 27/06/2013 21:39

not really. is that scarlet fever? Def has the strawberry seed kind of appearance although not bright red. He keeps saying he has bits in his mouth and licking his lips. When it dries it is all flaky and crusty so there is something in his mouth which is unpleasent

Strawberry tongue?
Does he have any sign of a sandpaper like rash? (can look a bit like lots of tiny goosebumps) Sore throat?
Could be scarlet fever if so.

The tongue defo sounds like scarlet fever

Bunbaker · 27/06/2013 21:55

When DD had a strawberry tongue the doctor told me it was a symptom of strep throat. A course of antibiotics soon sorted it out.

perfectmummy · 27/06/2013 21:56

no rash.
The sore throat was last week at the beginning of what doc said was bad virus. he was then very hot and vomiting for about 36 hours. Slowly got better but every other day has had a relapse and temp up again, no food and sleeping a lot. when the relapse happens the tongue is sore again and the lip licking starts!
Very odd.

Bunbaker already on penicillin so would have thought that would help but hasn't made any difference

How long has temp been raised? i would get another doctor's appointment.

Romann · 28/06/2013 21:57

I would get a test for Kawasaki syndrome (very quickly as it needs early treatment)

perfectmummy · 30/06/2013 19:25

thanks all for your advice. We have spent the last 3 days in hospital.
DS is still pretty much the same but docs have sent us home today with diagnosis of mystery virus, poss glandular fever.
Kawasaki was mentioned early on when we arrived at hosp but after 48 of meds bringing the temp down I think it has been overruled.
So upsetting when little ones are poorly x

It wouldn't explain the high temperature but mine often get oral thrush after antibiotics and that makes the tongue sore, red and strawberry like (the thrush is the white bits).
