DS tonsillitis, ready to return to school but now has red eye, what to do?

DS, 5 has been off school for a few days with tonsillitis. He is very much ready to return to school tomorrow, but has now developed a red eye. Does anyone know if this could be linked to the tonsillitis and if so, should I keep him off for another day (in case he's contagious)?

Hi lovesummer - I'd be tempted to get his eye looked at by the GP I think. Strep A can be responsible for various minor infections, including tonsillitis and red eyes, so it may be he'd need antibiotic drops. One of my DDs had an eye infection caused by it when she was a baby, and coincidentally or not, both DH and I had had tonsillitis around the same time. They did a swab to check and the drops cleared it up very quickly but it was quite nasty-looking for a few days.
