Anyone have experience of hand, foot and mouth?

I'm wondering if DS (3 years) has this. He been a bit off colour since Saturday. He vomited once on Saturday morning, hasn't had much appetite since then, maybe a bit of a temperature. He's definitely been more comfortable when I've given him some ibuprofen.

Today, I noticed a red patch on his top lip, like he'd been licking his lips, though it probably appeared too quickly for that. On closer inspection, I think it's more like little blisters, and he has a few more smaller ones round his mouth.

I checked the nhs website but wasn't sure as I don't think he's got any mouth ulcers. Also, no blisters on hands or feet.

Anyone have any experience? If it is hfm, is it very contagious?

Hi, it does sound like it, DTs only had it round their mouths, I thought it was exczema at first. It is highly contagious, you'll need to keep him off nursery if he goes. My sister and I both got it too - much worse than the kids!

I noticed a small patch of tiny red dots on DD2's hand in the evening. Thought "uh oh". She hadn't been right all day. Sure enough by morning it was all over her hands and feet. She didn't get it much on her face. It didn't bother her too much, guess we were lucky.

Just to warn you... a good few weeks/ month after it had all healed some of her toe nails went all white, started peeling and eventually fell off. It didn't bother her much. Advice was to use a sticky plaster/ similar so it didn't catch and tear off. They fell off except the last millimetre by themselves and when I pulled the last tiny bit there was no bleeding.
