Alergic to Coconut oil nit lotion

My son seems to come out in red blotches around his head where/when we use coconut based nit lotions.

Does anyone know why, or what is as good as coconut oil for smothering those little critters?

My American friend uses olive oil or mayo on the DC head, she literally soaks their scalp and hair with oil and puts on a shower cap leaves it over night washes and combs in the morning and used tea tree

I would say it's because he's allergic to coconut.
