'twisted' ankle in 7 yo dd. A&E, or wait it out?

7 yo dd, twisted ankle on Sat p.m. Still won't out ANY weight on it (been hopping at school!!)
noticed slight bruising on inside of ankle, no swelling to speak of, pain in outside of ankle. Shes had ibuprofen, should I wait and see or go to A&E and sit there for hours and hours ??

Are you certain it's twisted and not fractured?

A&E because it may well be broken. It's proably not, but it does need checking.

Or - do you have a fracture clinic you could go to instead?

Well not x rayed it at home

it's not very painful, except when weight bearing...
She only fractured her elbow 8 weeks ago!

Basically, if she can't weight bear and has pain in the right places then A&E will X-ray. Doesn't mean she has a fracture but it might. Not being able to weight bear and having pain around the ankle area and a sore outside ankle will score her an X-ray.

If she hasn't been able to weight bear since Saturday i'd go to A&E or minor injuries clinic if you have one. A twisted ankle would probably be swollen so it may be fractured.

No fracture clinic... A&E the only option...

Dd sprained her ankle last weekend and has been on crutches for the whole week. Yesterday was the first day she could walk on it at all. The doctor's surgery said they would want to see her again if it wasn't improving any more after two weeks.

So it could take a while to improve. But I would second the advice to have it x-rayed to rule out a fracture.

A&E I'm afraid. My DS1 went to minor injuries and was diagnosed with a 'twisted ankle'. Two days later, he couldn't weight bear, so I took him to A&E. It was a (mildly) broken leg. There was little obvious swelling, and it was painful, but not enough to prevent him playing and reading.

poor DD and poor you. I hope it gets better quickly. Is she in a cast? Such bad luck to do this just when the weather is improving enough to play outside.

Well.. fracture clinic this morning, there isn't a fracture!!!

Why did they say she had fractured it then?

The a&e Dr wasn't an orthopedic consultant... I think kids x rays can be tricky to read, so better to treat as fracture then find out its not, iyswim?
Same happened with elbows last year, is broken, isn't broken, is broken
What can you do?!
She still won't put it on the floor, got crutches now
