Any experience of penicillin-resistant strep throat?

DSs have had recurring fevers (every 3-4 weeks) for over a year now. It's beginning to look as if this may be recurring strep-throat with penicillin-resistance.

Does anyone have any experience of this? What treatment did you try? What happened? Many thanks for any replies.

I had this. Zithromax (Azithromycin) was what worked for me. You only need 3 doses.

GPs don't prescribe it because it is expensive. However, I feel this is a false economy because they only have to put up with the person coming back over and over again.

Obviously a swab needs to be taken for culture and sensitivity to make sure you get the right antibiotic.

Also, frequent gargling with Oraldene helps.
