Hand foot mouth- peeling skin and nails?

Hi - dS and I are both getting over hand foot and mouth. Our fingers and toes have just started peeling about a week or so after we started feeling better. Is this a normal experience as the virus is leaving the body? I've also read on bad dr google that kids have also lost their nails following the virus. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks so much.

My DS has had HF&M twice in the last year. He lost a few finger nails but they have all grown back absolutely fine now. I had it too when I was pregnant with DD and the same thing happened to me.
It's a bit annoying but they'll grow back in time.

It is terrible. Had no idea it could be this bad. I am sitting here with quite thick skin peeling from my fingertips. Could I ask you, how long after the actual sickness did the nails fall off? Thanks so much.

I'm not sure exactly but I think it was a little while after. I didn't link the two straight away and was really starting to worry. Then I had a forehead slapping moment when I remembered reading about it online!
