Can 2 spots be chickenpox? My mum has a weakend immune system, so I need to be careful!

Just that really. DD is 3 1/2 and we've just discovered that she has a spot on her neck and another over her right shoulderblade. The neck spot is not too large, but the one on her back is about half the size of a 5p coin and red. Doesn't look too fluid-y, if you know what I mean?

She's absolutely fine in herself; she's been a bit tired recently, but nothing unusual. No temperatures. Could this be a start of chickenpox. We saw my mum yesterday so I'm concerned as mum had a lung transplant 4 years ago and so has to stay way away from chickenpox. Any advice would be greatfully received!

Can't tell from what you describe, but DS1 had chickenpox and it was about 4 spots on one side of his neck and one on his shoulder. It might be I suppose. Is there anything your mum can do if she thinks she might have been exposed? Anything she can take?

Ooh, just remembered - all three of mine have had it, and all three had the being tired/temperature about a week or two before any spots came out. How was your little on last week?

Just checked the spot again and it does look like its filled with fluid (she is in the bath so not the best light when I checked before)

She was tired last week after nursery, but she's always a bit tired after nursery. She's been herself and not had a temperature or anything. This spot seems totally out of the blue.

We have suspected dd3 has had chickenpox several times. We got it checked and it was insect bites. However if it is insect bites you can usually see a tiny puncture wound in the centre of the blister. She regularly gets clusters of insect bites and they look EXACTLY like chickenpox but smaller in number and clustered.

Having said all that it isn't really insect bite season and with concerns for someone with a weekend immune system it probably isn't worth taking the chance.

If it is chickenpox I would expect her to develop more spots over the next 24hrs. If it is insect bites then probably not.

I would advise your dm that she may have been exposed. She may be offered prophyalctic chicken pox vaccine or anti virals.

DS was like that yesterday, today he is covered in spots. I would keep her away from your mum until your sure and let her know you think it may be so she can seek medical help

It can stay as just a couple of spots and still be chickenpox.

Ds had 2 spots for 2/3 days then on day 3/4 got about 300 new ones! No illness or anything with either of my kids before they came out in the pox.

DS has just started to come out in it. I suspected it yesterday, just a couple of little red pimples, first one turned blistery this morning.

I would def stay away from yr mum until yiu know for sure.

Yes, my DDs never had more than 5 spots.
