Ringworm in 3 year old - safe treatment (Lamisil doesn't seem suitable?)

I thought it was patches of eczema so it's been there a few week on DS - a few red, round, dry-looking patches on his arms and now he's got a red patch on his eyelid. I've had some brown spots on my body for 3 years (thought they were weird freckles, which emerged about the time I gave birth), but I'm now thinking this may be related.

Anyway, I showed the patches to my father (a retired GP, so not been in practice for several years now), who says it's ringworm and I could get lamisil or something else beginning with 'm', possibily ?micanozole?. I got some lamisil from the pharmacy, but I've looked it up on Google and it looks pretty nasty for children.

Any suggestions?

DD gets ringworm all the time as she has dry skin and we just use Canesten cream. You have to put it on every day (twice a day, I think?) and for a few days after the ringworm has vanished to make sure that all the fungal infection has gone. Sometimes takes a week or so, but always works in the end!
