Hi, my childrens father and I are separated and I have always had a problem with his parents and their chain smoking. Even though they don't smoke around the children they smoke constantly in their own home and my children spend 2 days there as that is where my ex is currently living. He incidently has started smoking too and seems to be constantly coughing. I have been telling them about the dangers of third hand smoke since our daughter was born four years ago and was told by my partner to not tell them as it would hurt their feelings. Now we are no longer together and the kids come back with a cough I don't know what to do as they need to see their dad and their grandparents are lovely they just have no self control when it comes to their habit. If I limit contact I will seem like a b*tch, but what if one of the kids develops asthma or worse?

You need to think seriously about this. My BF from school has just been diagnosed with lung cancer (aged 43)....she has never smoke, but her mum smoked in the house when she was a child until she was 13...

I'd sooner seem like a bitch and prevent contact taking place there if at all possible - better that than risk my children becoming ill through passive smoking - even if it meant getting my solicitor involved.

Thanks ladies, I just spoke with my ex on the phone about it and he says he listened to what I said, lets hope he acts upon it. My daughter is coughing in her sleep right now! Thanks for your advice.
