My 3 year old son has been diagnosed with glue ear and has been seen by ent who have given him a 6 week course of antibiotics before any surgical treatment!

Has anybody else had this? Does it work?

I've not heard of this as an intervention - does your son have any sign of infection? temperature? oozy ear? did ENT say what they thought it would do?

what causes glue ear is unclear, its a build up of fluid in the middle ear and can happen after an infection but not necessarily is an infection

This was suggested for my then 4 year old. I refused. He'd had many courses of antibiotics already for tonsillitis so I knew it wasn't going to work. He had grommets inserted in both ears, 2 years ago. Not one infection since.
