Any dentists around? Strange skin-tag thing in toddler's mouth

Hello. Slightly concerned.

This morning DD (almost 3) was complaining of her gum being sore. I had a look and, just where her back molars will come through, there is what I can only describe as a 'skin-tag'. It's the same colour as the rest of her gum and firm but 'hanging on'.

Additional information - she teethed very late (first tooth at 15 months and then none for ages). There looks to be a tooth coming through around there but it's not broken the skin.

We have making a dentist appointment for ASAP but can't get in for a week. I was hoping someone could give me some info?

Hi Sneezy

Sounds like what we had. My ds1 (18 months) was teething with molar then gums at front became very swollen and looked like they were growing down over teeth and had bit hanging off over front teeth. C

Could tell he was in a lot of pain - took him to doctor not dentist who said it was gum infection. Gave antibiotics and gums went back to normal within a few days.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply, Eliru.

I've been having a search on the Internet and I've found a pic which looks a lot like what DD seems to have. diddylove.wordpress.com/2011/01/09/molar-teething-discovery/ so I'm wondering if it's just displaced skin. If it seems to bother her I'll take her to the doc as you suggested. If not, she's at the dentist next week so I'll ask her for her advice.

Actually that pic doesn't look like ours - ours was more red and inflamed coming down over front teeth.

Hope the dentist able to help!

It's gone and there's more tooth, so presuming it dropped off as the tooth appeared! She's still going to the dentist anyway but I'm no longer concerned she has an infection or something!
