When would/should you take a child to the drs with a cough?

Just that really,do I take ds(7yrs) or wait and see if his chesty cough goes by itself?hes happy enough and no temp but had it for about 2 weeks along with a snotty nose

The nose is causing the chesty cough. If you get the nose to dry up the cough will eventually go. It's being caused by mucus dripping down his throat and into his chest. If he is bringing up green mucus he has a chest infection and will need antibiotics. If not, you need a good medicine that will dry up his nose and then put something like Vicks on his chest and the soles of his feet (then cover them in socks - trust me it works). Once you get the nose under control, the cough will dry up and go. Good luck!
